Summer Workshop Series #5: Materials, Art, and Design

During Thread of Hope’s Summer Workshop Series #5 on August 8, students explore how different materials can inspire art and shape the design process.

Students examine the colors, textures, flexibility, and strength of everyday materials before choosing which ones best fit their ideas. Using fabric scraps and other reusable materials, they transform their sketches into original works of art and experiment with different ways to arrange, connect, and layer each piece.

As they create, students learn that material choice affects both the appearance and function of a design. The workshop brings art, sustainability, and STEM together, showing students how creativity can give familiar materials a new purpose.
