DIY Water Bottle Hovercraft

Build a mini hovercraft using a simple water bottle and a balloon! Explore physics concepts like air pressure, friction, and motion while having fun with hands-on engineering.

Materials:

  • Empty plastic water bottle (small, 500ml works)

  • Balloon

  • CD or plastic lid

  • Bottle cap with a small hole (or tape to make one)

  • Tape, scissors

Instructions:

  1. Attach the balloon to the bottle cap securely.

  2. Fix the bottle cap to the bottom of the bottle or CD so air can flow underneath.

  3. Inflate the balloon without letting the air escape, then place the hovercraft on a smooth surface.

  4. Release the balloon and watch your hovercraft glide!

  5. Try adjusting the air flow or surface to see how it affects motion.
