Summer Workshop Series #1: Can Fabric Help Clean Polluted Water?

During Thread of Hope’s Summer Workshop Series #1 on July 11, students explore whether something as ordinary as fabric can help clean polluted water.

They test 100% cotton, 100% polyester, and cotton-polyester blends. They observe how quickly water moves through each fabric, how much water it absorbs, what passes through, and how well it holds up during testing.

Students also learn how the molecular structures of cotton and polyester affect the way these materials interact with water. By the end of the workshop, they begin to see fabric as more than something we wear—it is an engineered material that can be studied and used to solve environmental problems.
